What Is an Umbrella (PAYE) company?

An Umbrella (PAYE) company is a Solution which enables you to ‘join’ the company as a PAYE member while maintaining a contractor status as opposed to an employee status. It can be useful if you are a first time contractor on a short-term contract or you want to maintain Class A PRSI contributions.

It’s also a useful Solution for those who want to be a contractor, but don’t want to be, or for legal reasons can’t be, self-employed.

We typically only recommend this solution for very short term contracts, or where a working authorisation (non-EU individuals) has restrictions on being self-employed.
